The Knit Kit - All Your Knitting Notions In One Unit!ReviewsI bought this item for a knitting friend of mine for Christmas, and in turn received one myself! It's slightly larger than the palm of my hand (the pictures make it seem smaller) and has just about everything I need for most knitting projects. The scissors work great, as do the needle-tip caps. The only thing that is blatantly missing is a plastic yarn needle, which I added and conveniently fits into the back storage area. I take The Knit Kit with me on road trips and and it says it's TSA approved so I can bring it on my next flight, thought I haven't tried this yet. It's nice to have everything all together. The thread cutter is a little hard to open (I've broken a few nails on it, but I rarely use it, so it's not a big deal to me) and for some reason there's no easy way to reset the stich counter, you just need to click it back to zero by pushing the wheel with your fingernail. Oh, and the "lock" feature is pretty weak (doesn't lock anything that I can tell). For what I need though, this is perfect. Measuring tape, crochet hook for fishing out dropped stiches, scissors, stich counter, stich markers, and needle-tip caps, I'm in geeky knitting gadget heaven. This is great when you knit on the run. I'm still hard pressed to leave behind my standbys. The scissors BARELY cut yarn, which was a bit sad, but the other features are great and I would rather have those scissors than nothing. I got this in my Christmas stocking (yeah, it was on my wish list) and I've found it to be very helpful. I wouldn't use the crochet hook for much other than a small emergency and I added a plastic sewing needle of my own, but other than that, I have no criticsm of this handy little kit that has already been quickly tossed into a project bag on my way out the door. If you're a new knitter just gathering supplies, GET THIS. It has all the little odds and ends you will frequently use as you become more experienced. If you're an old hand, GET THIS. It's the perfect knitting traveling companion. It's small and compact and has everything you'll need when you're knitting on the go. Between the Knit Kit, my Knit Picks interchangeable needles, and some yarn, I don't need anything else! If you need a little more of an idea how awesome this is, the week before Thanksgiving I was on a road trip from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles. I decided to knit the Subway Mittens, an Interweave Knits pattern. The first mitten was knit before I got the Knit Kit (I found an awesome yarn store in LA). I fumbled around my bag for scraps of yarn for stitch markers, dug through my pocket for clippers to cut yarn, and kept losing a crochet hook. Well, I got the Knit Kit and the knitting of the second mitten on the way back to Salt Lake was a breeze. It was so nice to just have to feel for the smooth plastic case of the Knit Kit and pluck out what I needed. It's a great gadget and it will make the perfect gift for any knitter. The concept for this product is good. The execution is not so good. The materials are cheaply made plastic. The crochet hook is permanently bent, so it is almost impossible to use to pick up dropped stitches. It IS handy for keeping all of your "knitting notions" together, but I would rather put things together in a baggie so that I can have better quality products in one spot. Average Rating:![]() |

Boye NeedleMaster 200 Interchangeable Needle SetReviewsI bought this kit about a year or two back because a lot of patterns tell you to change needle sizes in the middle of a project. It is a very good kit for the casual knitter, but more trouble than it is worth if you are literally "addicted" to knitting. It is a very bad kit if you use only one length of cord a lot. The kit comes with a complete set is needles (sizes 2-15) and four different lengths of connector cables. The kit allows you to connect two or more cables together to knit on very long circulars. The incentive to buy this kit is that you don't have to spend a lot of money to get all the needles sizes and lengths of circulars. The drawbacks of this kit are that the needles sometimes slowly unscrew from the cord. I had to buy a second kit from a brick/mortar store because a cord broke on me and left me without a way to finish what I was currently knitting. It is a major hassle to order replacement parts. To order replacement parts you have to print out a order form and send the form with a check and wait 4-6 weeks. The customer service hours end rather early unless you live in the Central time zone (I live on the west coast). I would have given this product 4 stars if they had a easier way to obtain replacement parts. I don't know the first thing about needles or what this product is used for, but my wife wanted it so I bought it for her. The response from the store was quick and thorough and the shipment arrived very quickly. I'm a new knitter and I saw this as a great way to get a range of needle sizes for all the different projects I wanted to complete, which worked. While I now have various sizes of needles, I find them a bit strange to work with (again, I'm a newbie). The cables seem really stiff- once, I was working with the size 15 needles and the longest cable, one of the needles slipped from my hand and because of the way I was turning my work and the stiffness, the needle smacked me in the face. Nothing tragic, but the cables have a bit of a snap to them. No problems with keeping the cables screwed into the needle like others have mentioned- just use the tools provided and they will stay put. The case... well don't expect anything pretty. It holds everything snugly- so you won't open it up and have needles spill out all over the place. They are a good investment. To insure the needles won't come undone, use the wire "key" to tighten your connections. If your hands get tired easy or get tendonitis, use bamboo. The hardness of metal needles aggravate tendonitis. I do not recommend these needles for delicate lace knitting as it could possibly snag and the slipperiness of the needles could make your progress frustrating. I use these needles frequently when I'm knitting scarves or hats using wool or acrylic yarn. Average Rating:![]() |

The hook, it's tip and grip is retro and easy to crochet with. I've dropped mines many times an the paint does not scrap off. Although excess use of the tip can take some paint off. Product works very nicely, smoothly finished with nice bright colors. Hooks aren't very heavy and are easy to use. Average Rating:![]() |

Creating Crochet Fabric: Experimenting with Hook, Yarn & StitchReviewsThis new book helps to fill a gap in the books available to fiber artists working in crochet. It's easy to find books teaching basic stitches and techniques; it's easy to find books full of patterns and projects; it's almost impossible to find good books addressing the technical aspects of the art beyond the beginner level. Written in a comfortable style, well edited and with a user-friendly layout, the book invites all crocheters to move beyond simple following of patterns, into the realm of creating the fabrics they want for the projects they choose. For those who like to follow patterns, each lesson is followed by a sophisticated, well-photographed project illustrating and practicing the concept. For those who like to experiment, create and design on their own, each lesson offers a wealth of relevant information, valuable tips, and useful suggestions for using the best fiber and the best hook for each planned fabric. If you want to move your crochet from "craft" to "art" this book is one of the tools that will help you on that journey! This book's projects are fantastic, original, and beautifully photographed. Because of it, I enthusiastically set to work with my crochet hook and some wool, which resulted in a new design. It's a great read and useful for reference purposes also. The author has been thorough and informative as well as inspirational for crocheters at any level, or those who want to get started with this remarkable craft. I learned so much from this book. Whether you are designing your own crochet projects or just want to choose an appropriate substitute yarn for a pattern, this book will help you do it. There are sections on fiber and yarn, stitch definition, drape versus structure, and even how to work with challenging yarns. Dora teaches the reader how to use swatching to determine the best stitch patterns and hook size for a particular yarn. The concepts are illustrated with excellent photographs. This is not primarily a pattern book, but includes several great patterns that put the theory taught in the book into practice. Highly recommended. I'm very happy with this book.... no "craft yarn specials"...every thing is high end, nice design ideas, instructions clear and well laid out. Impressive high end effort. I've made 3 bobble hats and they are a huge hit. My one reservation with this book is that I really do not like presentations of finished items on racks/hangers/stands. I'd prefer to see them on human frames/heads. Especially with the hats, you really have no idea what it will look like based upon the images in this book until you make it. I was very surprised how well the bobble hat fit and you'd not get that from the photos. Other than that, very pleased with the book. This book is a real treat and may I say, well edited. With crisp lanugage and beautiful pictures, the author explains how to think about matching the right yarn to the right stitch to create the kind of fabric that is best for your project. She encourages you to create swatches not to test for gauage but to test for this "match". Oh and it has some nice patterns as well. The book is really well laid out and easy to use. A must for your library if you are at all interested in crocheting. Average Rating:![]() |

By Hook or by Crook (A Crochet Mystery)ReviewsI love this series. It is light- hearted and funny with a twist of romance and mystery. The crafter in me doesn't know whether to read or crochet! Perhpas because I am partial to croachet over knitting, I prefer these over the Maggie Sefton knitting mystery series. Enjoy! I was not impressed with this book. The characters are not interesting or plausible. I really enjoy a good mystery and I like mystery series such as those written by Carolyn Hart, Diane Mott Davidson, Joanne Fluke, Sue Grafton and Maggie Sefton. Their books make you eager for the next adventure with characters you can identify with. I will not purchase any ore books by this author. I loved this book. I love this author. I can't wait for the next one. Its always a plus to have free patterns at the end. Its not that many crochet mysteries out there. ENJOYED THIS BOOK AS MUCH AS HER PREVIOUS BOOKS,IT KEPT YOU TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO HAD DONE THE DIRTY DEED.LOOK FORWARD TO MORE CROCHET MYSTRIES. I am thoroughly hooked on Molly Pink and her crew of Tarzana Hookers. This book was so enjoyable that I didn't want it to end. I loved the way the clues were doled out gradually and judiciously, with a sprinkle of red herring and a smidgen of clever concealment. I'm already hanging by a thread waiting for the next one in this series. I'll be like a little kid with her nose to bookstore window, waiting for the next Molly Pink book to hit the shelves ~ Average Rating:![]() |

From Needles to Hook: Complete Guide to Converting Knit Patterns to CrochetReviewsI have been looking for a book to help me convert knitting patterns using crochet stitches. This book is the one! I am very happy with the reasonable price and prompt service I received. The book's condition is just as it was described. I look forward to using this service again in the future. Thank you This is actually a spectacular book! First of all, I wouldn't recommend this book to beginners or those who only use the basic stitches. Converting knit patterns are easier for intermediate and higher skilled crocheters. The conversions are of lace, ladder, cables, eyelet, alternating cables, bobbles, ENTWINED CABLES (wow!) etc., stitches. Keep in mind that a lot of the conversions are based on the use of post stitches (back and front), spikes, and combining a number of stitches together (for the bobbles). It even teaches you how to turn a knit basketweave into a crocheted version and the Tri-color stitch pattern is much easier than you would dare to believe. The patterns are great for those who simply want to practice using the techniques. For designers and intermediate crocheters who really envy the intricate knit lace and cross patterns, this book is a godsend. I give this book a rating of three only because it could have been better with flower and vine stitch pattern conversions, particularly the raised versions, and a better primer on reading knitting patterns. However, if you master the patterns contained, it's likely that you could just learn to convert the patterns on your own with chain spaces and other stitches. GREAT BOOK, but not for beginners. I have to say, if I'd bought this book brand new for the $49.99 asking price from sellers here on Amazon I, too, would have been DEEPLY disappointed. However, I purchased the book for 40% off the cover price of ~$25 from my local Hancock Fabrics which put it at about $15 - much more in line with its actual value. I also had the opportunity to look through the book prior to purchasing it. I still bought it - so obviously I found something of value in it, but I think the fact that it was 40% to begin with speaks volumes. The book is definately NOT what the title implies. It is NOT a "complete guide to converting knit patterns to crochet". What it IS, as another reviewer accurately pointed out - is simply a list of recommended stitches to duplicate particular knitted "looks". The book provides common sense stitch replacements to duplicate knitted garter and stockinette designs and instructions for how to convert specific knitted cable & bobble designs to crocheted ones. This same information is available free online simply by Googling it. The ultimate test: I tried to convert a knit pattern in The Ultimate Sourcebook of Knitting & Crochet Stitches from knit to crochet using the "suggestions" given in this book for stitch replacement and the crocheted version of the pattern looks absolutely nothing like the knitted version. A more accurate title for this book would be: "Converting Knitted Cable Patterns to Crochet". From Needles to Hook: Complete Guide to Converting Knit Patterns to Crochet Ordered this for my friend and she just loves. Now she can do the converting without getting frustrated. I have to admit the reviews that were written on this book caused me to hesitate. I was determined to purchase this book, but after reading the reviews, I had serious second thoughts. But I went ahead and purchased it as I needed the book to get the free shipping on my order. Upon receiving the book, I expected the worse. But the Reviews ARE WRONG! This is an excellent book. One that is easy to follow and read. It has clear precise instructions on the pitfalls and difficulties of converting knit patterns to crochet patterns. It is well organized. The Reader has to want to do the conversions and be determined. But that is not the fault of the author. There is advice and helpful suggestions throughout the book. The yarn substitution section was an eyeopener for me. Yes, the book does give a knit pattern and finds a similar look in crochet. And in the front part of the book and before each chapter it explains how to convert each pattern and the unique issues with them. I fully recommend this book to any one who loves knit pattern and feel but hates to knit(or refuses to learn - like myself). Being a man, and having a hard time finding manly sweater patterns for my very bulky size in crochet, this book provides me with a whole new avenue of options. Yes, I have to work to make those options a reality. But this book gives me what it promises and that is the tools and knowledge I need to succeed in doing so. Average Rating:![]() |
